Holey Optochip by IMB transfers 1Tbps Data

Misc,Vendors

Since the time “Holey Optochip” was expected to be revealed, everyone knew it would have some extraordinary features. The masterminds at IBM managed to transmit about 1Tbps of data along with an overwhelmingly high bandwidth and other amazing features. The chip is going to take interconnectivity to a whole new level fueling future supercomputers and data center applications.

For a layman who doesn’t understand the tech language, this Optochip can transfer about 500 HD videos in a second’s time. To put this in another way, this chip will have the power to transfer the entire archives of US Congress Library in around 1 hour. To achieve this, researchers are exploring new ways to utilize optical signals to produce chips at a lower cost but a higher volume. If you are excited about this chip and are expecting a supercomputer to come out in a two year’s time, this may not be the case, as manufacturers at IBM have been struggling to do this since 2008. But with Holey, anything`s possible.
